TORCH-ON WATERPROOFING

Torch-On Waterproofing for Flat Roofs

Torch-on waterproofing uses a bituminous membrane that is heat-fused to a properly prepared surface to create a durable waterproofing layer. It is commonly used on flat roofs where correct surface preparation, drainage and detailing are critical to long-term performance.

Drytek assesses the existing roof condition before recommending the appropriate system. This can include substrate preparation, repairs to damaged areas, treatment of laps and joints, and careful detailing around parapets, outlets and penetrations.

COMMON PROBLEMS

Common flat roof waterproofing problems

These are the most common ways flat roof waterproofing fails — usually signalling that the membrane has reached the end of its service life or was never correctly detailed in the first place.

Ponding and standing water

Poor falls or inadequate drainage can leave water sitting on the roof surface, adding pressure on the waterproofing and creating pathways for water ingress over time.

Failed or deteriorated waterproofing

Ageing membranes and coatings can crack, blister or split, gradually losing their ability to keep water out.

Leaks around joints, upstands and flashings

Parapets, wall junctions, outlets and expansion joints are common failure points once the detailing around them deteriorates.

Cracks and exposed concrete surfaces

Cracks and porous areas in exposed concrete give water a way to penetrate, leading to dampness and damage below the surface.

TORCH-ON APPLICATIONS

Torch-on waterproofing applications

Torch-on systems can be used across a range of waterproofing applications, from residential flat roofs to larger commercial surfaces and below-ground areas.
